Zur deutschen Fassung

  • Deutsch (German)

Just like almost every other week, the Federal Press Office published the military aid deliveries from the past week to Ukraine on the federal government’s website.

Contents
  • A new Patriot air defence system for Ukraine
  • Plenty of ammunition for the sustainability

This week, the focus was on powerful air defence and a comparatively large amount of ammunition. Germany delivered the following military assistance to Ukraine last week.

  • 1 MIM-104 Patriot
  • ~ 60 missiles for MIM-104 Patriot
  • 14 drone detection sensors
  • 9 Bandvagn 206
  • 8 Mercedes-Benz Zetros tank trucks (water / fuel)
  • 4 semi-trailer for HX81
  • 4 vehicles
  • 3 mobile, remote controlled and protected demining equipment
  • 7,390 shells of 155 mm artillery ammunition
  • 47,040 rounds of 40 mm ammunition for automatic grenade launchers

The German government also pledged to deliver 47 Toyota Land Cruisers to Ukraine. A further 68,000 shells of 155 mm artillery ammunition are also to be delivered as part of the EU procurement.

A new Patriot air defence system for Ukraine

With another patriot system supplied by Germany, Ukraine has received a powerful instrument to make its own skies safer.

However, the delivery was no longer a surprise. A day before this was made public on the German government’s website, a spokesperson for the German Luftwaffe had already confirmed the delivery to me. I had reported on this in detail on social media (for example on X) and on my blog.

Together with the system, around approximately 60 missiles were delivered. To complete this week’s delivered air defence assets, another 14 drone detection sensors were also delivered. This means that Germany has supplied a total of 182 of these sensors to Ukraine.

Plenty of ammunition for the sustainability

In addition to the usual batch of logistical or technical vehicles, a comparatively large amount of ammunition was also delivered.

For example, 47,040 rounds of 40 mm ammunition needed for automatic grenade launchers such as the HK GMG/GMW whose delivery was made public last week, were delivered.

In addition, 7,390 shells of 155 mm artillery ammunition were delivered and 68,000 more were pledged. Germany is buying these artillery shells from France for a total of 278 million euros and having them delivered to Ukraine.

The order is part of the EU’s plan to supply a total of one million artillery shells to Ukraine. It is already clear that this project cannot be realised in the given timeframe.
