Germany has been secretly paying for Eutelsat’s satellite internet for a year now
Eutelsat’s chief executive Eva Berneke told Reuters that Eutelsat has provided Ukraine with its high-speed satellite internet for about a year, while the German government has borne the entire cost. This assistance has not yet been made public by the German government itself.
According to Berneke, less than 1,000 terminals are connecting users in Ukraine to Eutelsat’s network, while they are currently working on getting up to between 5,000 and 10,000 terminals and are in negotiations with the German government about financing the increase.
Germany plans to provide Ukraine with around 500,000 artillery shells in 2025
According to the German Ministry of Defence, Germany alone plans to provide around 500,000 of the total of 2 million artillery shells to be delivered to Ukraine by the EU within 2025.
Of the approximately 500,000 artillery shells planned, Germany has already delivered 92,000 in the first three months of the year — consisting of 23,000 122mm HE shells and 69,000 155mm HE shells.
Germany and EU have to step in for missing US aid
Germany and the EU have to reallocate €100 million in funding at short notice to finance urgently needed repairs of damaged substations in Ukraine, as USAID funding for this and other projects has been cancelled.
This was announced today by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in a press release. The funds now appear to be missing for other projects.
Another €130 million in humanitarian aid and stabilisation funds from Germany
During a surprise visit to Kyiv, Germany’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock today pledged another €130 million in humanitarian aid and stabilisation funds to assist Ukraine.
In a press statement, she said, among other things, that Putin is only simulating a willingness to negotiate and that we must not allow ourselves to be blinded by him. This is also why it is so important to be in Ukraine now and to make it clear that the next German government will continue to provide massive support for Ukraine.
Klingbeil against concessions for Putin
According to Lars Klingbeil, there is absolutely no reason at this point in time to move even a single centimetre closer to Putin, as the negotiations on a ceasefire in Saudi Arabia have not led to any changes and the bombings are continuing. He said Putin must end this war and only then could there be processes at some point where everyone could move towards each other.
This was stated by the Leader of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), which will most likely be part of the next German government alongside the CDU/CSU, on yesterday’s Caren Miosga show.
